I Joined a Support Group About Chemsex

Chemsex can become problematic for some gay and bisexual men. Support groups offer a safe, non-judgmental space to discuss drug use.

Chemsex means using drugs during sexual activity. Gay and bisexual men often engage in this practice. Sometimes it becomes difficult to control.

When chemsex becomes a problem, solutions exist. Support groups are one option. They allow people to speak freely about their use. There is no judgment here. Everyone helps one another.

Peer support is very important. This means people with similar experiences listen to each other. This support helps people reflect on their drug use. It also helps them stay sober longer.

But joining a support group can feel scary. Many people don't dare take that first step. They don't know what to expect. They fear being judged or misunderstood.

This is why magazine Tetu decided to share a story. A journalist attended one of these groups. He describes his experience from the inside. His account shows these spaces are welcoming and supportive.

In these groups, people discuss their sexual habits. They also discuss the drugs they use. Participants share their struggles. They also share their successes and progress.

These groups exist thanks to community organisations. Many work specifically for the LGBTQ+ community. They understand gay life realities. They know the social and sexual pressures that exist.

April Utile is a period dedicated to sexual health. It's a chance to discuss often-taboo subjects. Chemsex is one of them. It's important to talk openly about it.

If you or someone you know faces chemsex issues, you're not alone. Professionals and peers are available to help. Taking the first step may seem difficult. But these support groups welcome everyone without conditions.
