COC calls for Netherlands to lead on LGBTQ+ rights again
The COC urges the Netherlands to become a leader in LGBTQ+ rights once more. The country is falling behind other nations while discrimination remains widespread here.
The COC argues in the Volkskrant for a new role for the Netherlands. The country must lead again in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights.
The Netherlands was once pioneering. We had equal marriage rights first. But other countries have overtaken us now, the COC states. While progress stalls here, many nations are advancing faster.
The COC identifies concrete challenges. Discrimination at work still happens regularly. Transgender people face bureaucratic obstacles. Violence against LGBTQ+ people remains a serious problem.
The organisation calls on the government for more attention. Not just new laws, but enforcing existing rules too. And supporting victims of violence and discrimination.
The Netherlands has the capacity to lead again, says the COC. But policy must be taken seriously. Currently, it simply is not.
