The International Olympic Committee has made a significant decision. Trans women will not be allowed to compete in women's events. They cannot compete in men's events either. This rule will start at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

The ban does not only affect trans women. Cisgender women with DSDs are also banned. DSD stands for differences in sexual development. These are natural conditions some women are born with.

The new rules change what it means to be a woman in sports. But the rules do not change anything for men. Only women athletes must take genetic tests. These tests check if their biology meets the committee's standards.

Critics say this is very unfair. The rules treat women's bodies as something that must be approved. Men do not face the same checks or questions. This creates a double standard in Olympic sport.

Trans women athletes already face many barriers. Across America, sports bans have grown in recent years. Many trans girls have been removed from school sports teams. These bans have caused real pain for young trans people.

The Olympic decision adds to this pressure. It sends a message that trans women are not real women. Many LGBTQ+ groups strongly disagree with this message. They say sport should be inclusive and welcoming for everyone.

Some people support the ban. They argue it protects fair competition for women. They believe biology gives trans women an advantage. Scientists do not fully agree on this point.

DSD athletes have spoken out before. Runner Caster Semenya fought similar rules for years. She said the rules were humiliating and wrong. Many human rights groups supported her case.

The IOC says the rules are about fairness. But many experts say the rules are about fear. Fear of bodies that do not fit simple categories. Fear of difference in sport and in life.

LGBTQ+ advocates are calling for change. They want the IOC to listen to affected athletes. They want science, dignity, and inclusion to guide decisions. The fight for trans rights in sport is not over.
